My Experience as a Dietitian

After graduating from the University of Surrey as a Dietitian in 2002, I worked as a hospital based dietitian for 12 years up to a senior band 6 level. During my time there I worked on a wide range of wards including, respiratory, care of the elderly, haematology, admissions, cardiology and the stroke unit. As a result, my level of experience and knowledge is wide.
Clinical settings included both wards and outpatients. A wide range of dietary advice was provided to aid recovery and patient health, to include:

  • Nutritional support
  • Modified textured diets
  • Weight management
  • Type II Diabetes
  • Cholesterol and blood pressure lowering
  • Dietary intolerances, including lactose and gluten-free diets
  • Ensuring dietary balance and good hydration

Qualifications

  • BSc Hons. degree in Nutrion and Dietetics 2:1 from Surrey Universty 2002
  • Low FODMAP diet 3 day course – King College London March 2017

  • HCPC registration
  • Full member of the British Dietetic Association ( BDA )
  • Member of the BDA Freelance dietitian group

How I help my clients achieve their dietary goals

Since setting up as a freelance dietitian I have assisted a wide range of clients to meet their dietary goals.
A pre-consultation assessment of needs is carried out. This includes me :-

  • Assessing each clients pre-consultation questionnaire.
  • Reviewing the most up to date dietary evidence for each area of need.
  • Considering how this dietary advice can be best implemented for the individual.
  • Identification of suitable supporting literature and resources.

The 1 hour consultation includes:

  • An in-depth discussion of dietary needs.
  • Assessment of current diet.
  • Consideration of life styles and practical needs.
  • Explanation of dietary and lifestyle recommendations.
  • Agreement of individualised dietary and lifestyle changes needed to reach goal.
  • Provision of supporting literature and resources.

Post consultation I will:

  • Provide an individualised diet plan.
  • Write to your GP, briefly Informing them of my support.
  • Provide review / follow up consultations and support as required.
